The most powerful antioxidant amongst the fruits-The Aronia berry

The aronia berry, is often referred to as the most powerful antioxidant. Also known as the “Siberian blueberries” they carry the epithet because of their resistance at low temperatures and because they are most widespread in Russia.

As already mentioned, aronia is resistant to low temperatures (down to -45 degrees Celsius). Like most berries they have a bushy growth, which, depending on the area, can reach up to 2 meters tall. The fruit is eaten ripe and can be harvested up to two months after its maturation. It is also often kept as an ornamental plant.

Nutritional value

The aronia is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Especially the black aronia is rich in vitamins A, B2, B6, B9, C (which is essential for humans in everyday life), vitamin E and Q (which is very rare and helps with cellular damage, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, asthma, etc…). Any kind of aronia contains antioxidants needed to fight free radicals. In its framework there are several minerals like iron, manganese, iodine and phosphorus. Sorbitol is a fruit sugar which is also located in the aronia. It is very rare, and serves as a sweetener. Sorbitol slowly decomposes in our metabolism, which makes it suitable for consumption.
